Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between

On the 1st of May, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will present an exhibition of Res Kawakubo’s work - the 74-year-old Japanese designer and force behind avant-garde label, Comme des Garçons. As the first show of a living fashion designer since an Yves Saint Laurent exhibit in 1983, it will be a presentation of nearly 40 years worth of Rei's weird and wonderful world. These images, shot by Erik Madigan Heck for The New York Times, offer a fine taste of what's to come.
